Powertrain Test Technician (EV)

Location: Garden Grove, California, United States; onsite laboratory and test-cell work

Pay rate: $30–$40 per hour

What you will do

• Set up mechanical and electrical powertrain components on dynamometers and test rigs for performance and durability testing.
• Assemble and disassemble powertrain systems, electric motors, drive units, and related components.
• Instrument test hardware with thermocouples, pressure transducers, accelerometers, and flow meters.
• Fabricate custom test fixtures, cooling loops, and high- and low-voltage wiring harnesses.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues while maintaining test-cell uptime.
• Document test anomalies, teardown findings, and hardware iterations with test and design engineers.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in automotive, aerospace, or heavy-duty powertrain testing and assembly.
• Proficiency with shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and basic fabrication equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and high-voltage electrical safety protocols up to 800V+.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and technical documentation skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with dynamometer test cells, data acquisition systems, and test-rig operation.
• Experience building custom wiring harnesses, instrumenting stators with thermocouples, and fabricating mounting hardware.
• Familiarity with Jira.
• ASE, high-voltage safety, machining, or welding certifications.
