Powertrain Test Technician (EV)

Location: Garden Grove, California, United States; onsite

Pay rate: $30–40 per hour

What you will do

• Set up mechanical and electrical powertrain components on dynamometers and test rigs for performance and durability testing.
• Assemble and disassemble electric motors, electric drive units, and related powertrain systems and components.
• Instrument test hardware with thermocouples, pressure transducers, accelerometers, and flow meters.
• Fabricate custom test fixtures, cooling loops, and high- and low-voltage wiring harnesses.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in real time to maintain testing uptime.
• Document test anomalies, teardown findings, and hardware iterations in collaboration with test and design engineers.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in automotive, aerospace, or heavy-duty powertrain testing and assembly.
• Proficiency with shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and basic fabrication equipment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and high-voltage electrical safety protocols up to 800V or more.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and technical documentation skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with dynamometer test cells, data acquisition systems, test rig operation, and troubleshooting.
• Experience building custom wiring harnesses, instrumenting stators with thermocouples, and fabricating mounting hardware.
• Familiarity with Jira for project management and issue tracking.
• Technical school certificate, associate degree, ASE certification, high-voltage safety training, or machining/welding certification.
