Data Scientist (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; hybrid work

Salary: $200,000–$260,000 for Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist, plus equity; $265,000–$330,000 for Staff / Principal Data Scientist, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design experiments and analyses that expand access to capital while managing portfolio risk.
• Study the merchant lifecycle from initial offers through repayment and repeat capital to identify responsible growth opportunities.
• Build, deploy, and improve machine learning models forecasting merchant repayment behavior and informing offer pricing and sizing.
• Measure the impact of servicing interventions on merchant outcomes and recovered balances.
• Develop data pipelines, automated systems, dashboards, Streamlit applications, and internal tools used across the company.
• Lead data science projects end to end, collaborate with stakeholders, document findings, and mentor other data science team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Strong statistical reasoning, metric design, causal inference, and predictive machine learning skills.
• Ability to solve business problems with appropriate data science methods and assess effects on financial performance, customers, and compliance.
• Ability to write legible, reliable, tested code and contribute to model and data infrastructure design.
• Ability to prioritize high-impact work, scope projects rigorously, and execute with urgency.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in San Francisco, California.

Nice to have

• Management experience.
• Experience with XGBoost, APIs, LLMs, Streamlit, dashboards, or Slack bots.
