Staff+ Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Denver, Colorado or San Francisco, California

Salary: $190,000–$220,000 in Denver; $200,000–$240,000 in San Francisco per year

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and data models for clinician workflows, reporting, and internal tools.
• Own the scalability, reliability, and performance of production backend systems and data pipelines.
• Define backend architecture standards covering API design, data modeling, and interoperability across teams.
• Lead technical design for complex cross-functional initiatives with product, design, and engineering stakeholders.
• Unblock engineers, lead design reviews, and raise engineering standards across the organization.
• Partner with frontend engineers to integrate backend services into clinician-facing products.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• Staff+ experience influencing technical direction and architecture across teams without formal authority.
• Strong system design experience in distributed systems, data modeling, reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Experience owning production-grade backend services end-to-end, from database design through APIs and integrations.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Node, or similar backend technologies, with relational and/or NoSQL database experience.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into scalable technical systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with B2B SaaS, internal tools, or platform and integration-heavy systems.
• Healthcare or regulated-environment experience, including HIPAA or PHI.
