Lead Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky or Dallas, Texas, United States; work at home or hybrid home/office with occasional office visits and travel to hirify.global offices

Salary: $129,300–$177,800 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement enterprise REST APIs, GraphQL services, microservices, and event-driven capabilities.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture discussions, design reviews, coding, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and mentoring.
• Lead GraphQL schema and resolver design, query optimization, federation, API composition, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Drive sprint execution, delivery accountability, and collaboration with Product Owners, Architects, business stakeholders, and governance teams.
• Establish practices for API security, governance, observability, resiliency, production readiness, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Support cloud-native modernization and develop secure services for web, mobile, enterprise platforms, AI agents, copilots, and agentic workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale enterprise environments and 3+ years of technical leadership experience.
• 1–2 years of experience designing APIs, GraphQL services, and microservices for AI agents, copilots, or LLM-powered applications.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, GraphQL, microservices, Kafka, distributed systems, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, monitoring, and SRE practices.
• Knowledge of API governance and security, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, IAM, Ping Identity, ForgeRock, Apollo, GraphQL Java, Spring for GraphQL, and Federation.
• Home or hybrid home/office work requires a dedicated workspace protecting PHI/HIPAA information and internet speeds of at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree and AI, IAM, or cloud certifications.
• Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, insurance, or other regulated industries.
• Experience with AKS, GKE, OpenShift, Apollo Router, GraphQL observability, schema management, Apigee, API gateways, OpenAPI, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
• Familiarity with MCP, agent skills, tool calling, agent-to-agent communication, LLMs, RAG, AI orchestration, and enterprise AI platforms.
