Lead Java Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid, with in-person work at an assigned hirify.global office at least two days per week

Salary: $90,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, develop, and support large-scale Java enterprise applications and global platforms.
• Lead architecture and implementation of cloud-native, microservices-based solutions.
• Build high-volume, low-latency applications, REST APIs, event-driven services, and distributed systems.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and promote engineering best practices.
• Implement CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated testing, monitoring, observability, and reliability practices.
• Apply secure coding, authentication, encryption, authorization, and data protection controls for regulated data.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise applications with Java.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven applications.
• Experience building cloud-native applications and deploying to cloud platforms; GCP is preferred.
• Experience supporting mission-critical production systems, troubleshooting complex issues, and leading incident resolution.
• Expertise with Java and Spring, including Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Security, Spring Cloud, and Spring Data.
• Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Maven, Git, SonarQube, JUnit, TestNG, WireMock, and TestContainers.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating AI or LLM solutions, RAG architectures, AI agents, or AI-powered automation.
• Experience with Google Cloud Spanner or other globally distributed databases.
• Experience designing multi-region and multi-cloud architectures.
• Knowledge of SRE practices, SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and operational readiness.
• Architecture, cloud, Kubernetes, security, or SRE certifications.
