Staff Product Engineer (Fintech)

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend systems for money movement, benefit spending, account verification, transaction processing, and reconciliation.
• Lead complex projects from discovery and technical design through implementation, launch, monitoring, and iteration.
• Partner with product, operations, finance, compliance, and business stakeholders to solve mission-critical problems.
• Make architectural decisions balancing reliability, security, compliance, maintainability, speed, and user experience.
• Build systems with strong guarantees for correctness, idempotency, auditability, observability, and failure recovery.
• Mentor engineers, contribute across the stack when needed, and raise engineering standards through code reviews and best practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in fintech, payments, banking, benefits administration, or another regulated financial domain.
• Strong proficiency in Python and backend system design, APIs, data modeling, software architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience with payment processing concepts such as transactions, ledgers, reconciliation, KYB/KYC, account verification, ACH/card payments, or payment operations.
• Experience operating production systems where reliability, correctness, monitoring, observability, and incident response are critical.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Ability to independently deliver complex projects and collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Django and Django REST Framework.
• Experience designing financial data models, ledgers, reconciliation systems, or transaction-processing workflows.
• Experience with compliance-aware engineering in fintech, healthcare, benefits, payroll, banking, or insurance.
• Experience with React or Vue and collaboration with designers on user-friendly interfaces.
• Startup or high-growth company experience.
