Fullstack Ruby On Rails Principal Software Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: Remote (National) in the United States

Annual base salary: $215,000–$240,000

What you will do

• Drive technical direction for complex cross-cutting systems, including data models, APIs, clinical workflows, and integration patterns.
• Shape work end-to-end with product and design, from identifying the right problem through defining successful outcomes.
• Write fullstack code using Ruby, Rails, Turbo, Tailwind, ViewComponent, Stimulus, JavaScript, and selective React and TypeScript.
• Evaluate technical risks and tradeoffs, balancing long-term architecture with straightforward solutions that can ship quickly.
• Mentor engineers through architecture discussions, pairing, code reviews, and clear technical standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, clinical, and operations teams to support business and clinical goals.

Requirements

• Significant professional software development experience, primarily with Ruby and Rails.
• Experience influencing technical direction beyond individual code contributions and communicating tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to understand complex domains, challenge assumptions, own problems end-to-end, and identify appropriate solutions.
• Empathetic, thoughtful communication and collaboration skills in a flat, self-managing team.
• Experience developing a personal workflow with AI coding tools and understanding when AI agents are useful or harmful.

Nice to have

• Healthcare experience, especially clinical workflows, scheduling, EHR integrations, insurance billing, or multi-clinic operations.
• Experience with complex data modeling, system unification, and data migrations.
• API development and third-party system integrations.
• Experience with Shape Up or similar appetite-based development methodologies.
