TL;DR
Senior R&D Electromagnetic Analysis Engineer (Superconducting Magnets): Performing finite-element electromagnetic analysis and developing numerical models for high-temperature superconducting magnets with an accent on non-linear, anisotropic behavior and multi-physics simulation. Focus on validating simulations against experiments, creating in-house Python/MATLAB/C/C++ tools, and optimizing magnet designs for commercially viable fusion power plants.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops commercially viable fusion power plants and technologies for the future energy industry.

What you will do

  • Perform electromagnetic analysis of superconducting magnets to inform SPARC subsystem and future fusion power plant designs.
  • Build non-linear, highly anisotropic electromagnetic simulations for complex magnet geometries using finite-element and other methods.
  • Develop numerical tools and multi-objective optimization methods for high-temperature superconducting magnet design.
  • Collaborate with experimentalists on instrumentation, measurements, simulation validation, and correlation of models with experimental data.
  • Identify technologies for modeling and constructing high-temperature superconducting magnets, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Mentor new team members in magnet design and analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field with an electromagnetics background.
  • 7+ years of experience modeling electromagnetics with the finite element method.
  • Strong theoretical and computational electromagnetic analysis background, including non-linear physics.
  • Experience with commercial finite-element tools, preferably COMSOL.
  • Ability to customize commercial tools or develop in-house code using Python, MATLAB, C, or C++.
  • Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, and comply with U.S. export control laws for controlled technologies or information.

Nice to have

  • Multi-physics FEM modeling involving electromagnetics, heat transfer, mechanics, fluids, or structures.
  • Experience with superconducting non-linear physics and equivalent thermal or electrical circuit models.
  • Familiarity with agentic coding tools and coding best practices.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fast-paced, multidisciplinary R&D environment focused on integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
  • Equity and competitive compensation.
  • Company-wide holidays, flexible vacation days, and sick days.
  • Parental leave and health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with employer matching, professional growth opportunities, and team-building activities.
  • Work involves industrial hazards including strong magnets, high voltage and current, pressure systems, fumes, lead, and cryogenics; safety dedication is required.
