Atomic Source Physicist (Quantum Computing)

Location: Broomfield, Colorado, United States; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons: U.S. citizens, permanent residents or green card holders, or workers granted asylum or refugee status. Due to national security requirements, People's Republic of China or Russian nationals are not eligible unless also U.S. citizens.

Base pay: $131,000–$176,000 annually.

What you will do

• Conceptualize, design, build, integrate, operate, and validate atomic sources for trapped-ion quantum computers.
• Work directly with experimental scientists and engineers to develop and test new concepts.
• Collect and analyze experimental datasets.
• Communicate research results internally and externally through publications and presentations.
• Develop, implement, and oversee best scientific practices across the experimental team.

Requirements

• PhD completed before the start date.
• At least 5 years of atomic physics experience, including PhD experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status.
• Must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.
• Hands-on experience building and operating complex atomic physics systems.
• Intimate knowledge of at least one advanced laboratory technique for controlling quantum systems, such as precision laser spectroscopy, atomic or molecular beams, or cryogenic UHV systems.
• Excellent written, oral communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with magneto-optical traps, atomic or molecular beams, and other cold atom techniques.
• Experience with trapped ions and quantum computing hardware.
• Experience with simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
• Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis.
• Formal experimental physics background with a track record of solving outstanding and challenging problems.
• Published results within the field of research.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills, including working and negotiating with customers and partners.
