Senior Controls and Automation Technician (Industrial Automation)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; work in the Austin facility and active construction sites, with field travel as needed

What you will do

• Develop and refine PLC logic, HMI screens, alarms, interlocks, and automation sequences.
• Create and maintain I/O lists, wiring and network diagrams, configuration baselines, commissioning checklists, and service procedures.
• Diagnose controls failures across power, I/O, communications, motion, and safety systems using logs, fault codes, and instrumentation.
• Integrate, test, and validate sensors, actuators, drives, VFDs, servos, pneumatics or hydraulics interfaces, and safety systems.
• Perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and manage validated field releases through ECO/ECN processes.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and field teams, and support operator and technician training.

Requirements

• 4+ years supporting, troubleshooting, or commissioning industrial automation or electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on troubleshooting of 24VDC controls, sensors, relays, contactors, VFDs, servos, encoders, and basic instrumentation.
• Experience with at least one PLC platform such as Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Codesys, or similar.
• Working knowledge of EtherNet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT, Modbus TCP/RTU, and basic network troubleshooting.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, update documentation, and follow structured safety and verification practices.
• Willingness to work in field-like environments and travel as needed for commissioning and support.

Nice to have

• Motion control, servo tuning, homing strategies, and performance optimization experience.
• Functional safety knowledge, including ISO 13849 or IEC 61508 awareness.
• Experience with power quality, grounding, noise mitigation, generators, field power distribution, or hydraulic controls.
• Python or Bash scripting and data logging or diagnostics experience.
• Experience with large-format robotics, gantry or CNC-like systems, and technician training materials.
