Senior Machine Learning Engineer (NLP)

Location: Hybrid role based in Tysons Corner, Virginia, or South Jordan, Utah, United States

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable machine learning systems, primarily for document classification and prioritization.
• Own the full engineering lifecycle from exploratory analysis and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, iteration, and operations.
• Move ML models and data-processing pipelines from R&D into production using AWS cloud services.
• Improve the reliability and performance of ML applications through continuous testing and optimization.
• Use AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude while maintaining high standards for code quality and maintainability.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and cross-functional technical discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in machine learning or AI.
• Strong Python skills and the ability to write maintainable, production-oriented software.
• Experience evaluating large, complex datasets and operating ML or data-processing pipelines in production with AWS.
• Strong knowledge of NLP techniques including tokenization, entity extraction, disambiguation, and language models.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, technical judgment, and attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Strong AWS skills or experience with Elasticsearch.
• Experience applying NLP to foreign-language data.
• Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools.
• Experience with PyTorch or Scikit-Learn.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a related field.
