R&D Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; hybrid

What you will do

• Design, build, and test software and AI prototypes for emerging technologies and product ideas.
• Translate theoretical AI and machine learning research into practical, testable implementations.
• Create proof-of-concept demonstrations and conduct feasibility studies, benchmarking, and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate with research, engineering, and product stakeholders to align prototypes with strategic goals.
• Iterate on prototypes based on testing, feedback, and evolving technical requirements.
• Document designs, experimental results, and technical insights for internal knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field; a Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in prototype development, ideally in an R&D or high-growth technology environment.
• Strong foundation in engineering principles, machine learning, and applied mathematics.
• Proficiency in Python and C/C++.
• Experience with computer vision models, LLMs, or language processing technologies.
• Ability to build and iterate on technical prototypes independently, communicate clearly, and work across functions in technically ambiguous environments.

• Experience in startup or fast-paced R&D environments.
