AI Research Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Hybrid in New York City, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States

Salary: $225,000–$300,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and implement advanced machine learning models and training pipelines for robotics applications.
• Develop data and training strategies, evaluation frameworks, metrics tracking, and model debugging systems.
• Lead rapid experimentation, prototyping, performance optimization, transfer learning, and fine-tuning.
• Analyze model behavior and failure modes while building interpretability and visualization tools.
• Collaborate with engineering to optimize training infrastructure and model deployment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of AI modeling experience in the self-driving car industry, or a PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience developing and deploying large-scale machine learning models.
• Professional experience with diffusion and autoregressive models, reinforcement learning, and modern ML architectures.
• Experience with inference and infrastructure pipelines from camera input to trajectory output for self-driving or robotics systems.
• Strong skills in model debugging, optimization, performance tuning, and implementing research papers.
• Required: PyTorch, Python, NodeJS/TypeScript, and Docker.
