AI Research Engineer (Foundational Models) (Machine Learning and Robotics): Building and iterating on experimental ML pipelines and foundational models for autonomous systems, with an accent on reinforcement learning, transformers, and diffusion-based architectures. Location: On-site at the Seattle, WA office; US work authorization required. A relocation stipend is available for candidates moving to Seattle from more than 50 miles away.

What you will do
- Design, build, and iterate on experimental ML pipelines for foundational model development.
- Implement and train large-scale transformer and diffusion-based models for generative and control tasks.
- Develop and evaluate reinforcement learning algorithms for autonomous behaviors.
- Rapidly prototype research concepts and deploy them as efficient, scalable code.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ML components into real-world systems.
- Track current AI research and share relevant insights internally and externally.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Machine Learning, AI, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- At least 3 years of experience in applied ML research and software engineering.
- Hands-on experience training large-scale models such as transformers or diffusion models.
- Strong understanding of reinforcement learning fundamentals and applications.
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- Must have and maintain US work authorization; occasional travel is required.
Nice to have
- PhD in Machine Learning, AI, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Four or more years of applied ML research and software engineering experience.
- Experience designing ML experimentation frameworks and model training pipelines.
- Knowledge of simulation environments, robotics systems, multimodal architectures, or imitation learning.
- Understanding of edge computing or distributed ML training infrastructure.
