Radiation Shield Design Engineer

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 4 days in office and 1 day remote. Standard hours are 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Monday-Friday, with approximately 10% travel as needed.

Salary: $158,000-$183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, model, and analyze radiation shielding for nuclear reactors and nuclear facilities.
• Perform nuclear engineering design, analysis, evaluation, and requirements work using established engineering principles and specifications.
• Lead small groups of engineers in solving complex technical problems and delivering engineering work products on schedule and within budget.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and oversee internal or external design teams.
• Coordinate engineering activities with other disciplines, clients, suppliers, contractors, and project teams.
• Lead internal and customer design reviews and presentations related to nuclear design.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Typically 10 years of engineering experience; a relevant master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
• Technical expertise in radiation shielding design and analysis or another relevant nuclear engineering area.
• Relevant experience may include reactor core design, nuclear fuel analysis, criticality safety, reactor multiphysics, nuclear materials and chemistry, or nuclear analysis software verification and validation.
• Ability to work 4 days per week in the Gaithersburg office and maintain standard ET office hours.
