TL;DR
Opto-Mechanical Engineer (AI Hardware): Designing and validating precision opto-mechanical assemblies for photonic accelerator interconnects with an accent on optical alignment, thermal-mechanical interfaces, and production-ready manufacturing. Focus on tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, FEA, reliability testing, and tracing mechanical decisions through to optical performance.

Location: London, UK; on-site

Salary: Starting from £102,000 annually, plus equity. A £24,000 annual Living-Local Bonus is available for residences within 20 minutes of the office.

Company

hirify.global develops the DX-1 decode accelerator and optical interconnect hardware for AI infrastructure, combining logic, data movement, packaging, optics, and interconnect design.

What you will do

  • Design and develop opto-mechanical assemblies, including optical coupling structures, photonic interposers, ferrule and connector systems, and precision alignment fixtures.
  • Perform RSS and worst-case tolerance analysis for optical alignment across thermal excursions, assembly variation, and long-term drift.
  • Select and qualify optical-grade materials, adhesives, and bonded dissimilar-material structures based on CTE compatibility, outgassing, and process requirements.
  • Lead thermal-mechanical co-design for photonic subassemblies, including heatsinks for ASICs and high-power laser sources, and drive DFM/DFA.
  • Own GD&T drawings and engineering specifications, collaborating with process, optical design, and reliability engineering teams.
  • Support thermal, structural, and modal FEA, environmental stress testing, and failure analysis against relevant optical and telecommunications standards.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing precision opto-mechanical assemblies for production.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis, photonic component packaging, laser sources, PICs, fiber arrays, and optical couplers.
  • Experience with CTE mismatch analysis, adhesive joint mechanics, and thermally constrained mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Creo, and GD&T according to ASME Y14.5; familiarity with precision machining, MIM, EDM, laser micromachining, and optical bonding.
  • Eligibility is subject to U.S. export control regulations and recent citizenship or permanent residency status; applicants with recent citizenship or permanent residence in restricted countries may be ineligible.

Nice to have

  • Experience with OCP standards and rack design.
  • Green or Black Belt certification.

Culture & Benefits

  • Meaningful stock options and equity ownership.
  • Competitive compensation benchmarked against current market data.
  • Living-Local Bonus of £24,000 annually for eligible nearby residents.
  • Hands-on work spanning CAD, cleanroom activities, supplier collaboration, drawing release, and first-article reviews.
