Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York

Base salary: $148,000–$255,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead architecture and technical design for complex customer-facing systems and integrations.
• Partner with strategic customers and internal product and engineering teams to understand architectures, workflows, and constraints.
• Design, build, deploy, monitor, and iterate on integrations using APIs, data pipelines, and AI workflows.
• Build and operate LLM- and agent-based systems in production customer workflows.
• Design evaluation frameworks, test harnesses, metrics, and feedback loops for AI system quality and reliability.
• Translate deployment insights into reusable abstractions, internal tooling, product improvements, and technical standards.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and shipping software in production.
• Experience serving as a technical lead or domain owner for a team or major system.
• Strong Python skills plus proficiency in another language such as TypeScript or Go.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Ability to work across backend systems, integrations, infrastructure, and tooling with strong debugging and ownership skills.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to engineering, product, and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with LLM-powered or agent-based systems and LLM evaluation techniques.
• Startup experience, including work as a founder or early startup engineer.
• Background in fintech, compliance, regulated systems, identity, risk, fraud, or workflow automation.
• Experience with observability, reliability engineering, or system safety practices.
