Software Engineer (Autonomous Defense Systems)

Location: On-site in Huntington Beach, California, United States

Salary: $125,000–$160,000 annually for Software Engineer; $165,000–$220,000 annually for Senior Software Engineer, plus equity

What you will do

• Develop, test, and maintain software for autonomous defense platforms with high performance, reliability, and security requirements.
• Design and implement efficient, well-tested code in C++, Rust, Python, or C for real-time systems.
• Architect end-to-end solutions spanning low-level firmware and high-level mission software.
• Integrate software with embedded hardware in collaboration with embedded, GNC, and systems engineers.
• Optimize low-latency execution on embedded platforms and edge computing systems.
• Use secure coding practices, CI/CD, DevOps, and automated testing to support mission-critical deployments.

Requirements

• Proficiency in C++, Rust, Python, or C, with experience writing clean, efficient, and well-tested code.
• Experience implementing a large project of more than 10,000 lines from architecture through deployment.
• Strong understanding of real-time software development, embedded systems, performance optimization, and the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience with low-level hardware interfaces and software for real-time applications.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-iteration environment and work on-site in Huntington Beach, California.
• U.S. work authorization is required; access to export-controlled technology may require authorization under EAR and ITAR without export-license sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Significant Rust experience, including embedded Rust with Embassy.
• Experience developing software for autonomous systems, robotics, or aerospace applications.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, I²C, or real-time operating systems.
• Familiarity with sensor fusion, state estimation, or GNC systems.
• Experience modeling flight vehicle dynamics and developing firmware for embedded systems.
