Senior Control Software Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid workplace with occasional travel and required nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and verify control software for advanced R&D equipment and complex machinery.
• Develop production-quality control software across PLC and real-time Linux platforms.
• Create operator interfaces and workflows.
• Collect functional requirements and deliver software solutions for mission-critical real-time systems.
• Integrate software with software testbeds, hardware testbeds, and production tools.
• Improve software tooling, development velocity, and capabilities across the software ecosystem.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• Several years of experience with industrial control systems or embedded control systems.
• Several years of experience producing production-quality control software.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD, Git, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one real-time control language, such as C++, SCL/ST, or Rust.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment and comply with US export control requirements for protected technologies or information.

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial control platforms such as Beckhoff TwinCAT.
• Familiarity with Linux and industrial protocols including EtherCAT, Profinet, or Modbus.
• Knowledge of IP/UDP networking.
