Scientist II (Molecular and Cellular Biology; Upstream Processing)

Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; onsite role with occasional shift work, weekends, extended shifts, and short-notice schedule changes

Salary: CAD 90,000–131,250 per year, plus annual cash bonus and benefits

What you will do

• Lead mammalian cell line development and upstream process development for recombinant therapeutic proteins.
• Design, optimize, scale up, and operate seed trains and bioreactors for clinical-scale production.
• Coordinate vector construction, transfection, clone generation, screening, selection, stability assessment, and cell bank characterization.
• Prepare process designs, workplans, batch records, reports, and other development documentation.
• Lead technology transfer activities and provide technical support, training, and troubleshooting to Manufacturing Operations and MSAT.
• Execute experiments, analyze data, manage external characterization services, and present results to project teams, management, and clients.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of molecular biology, cell line development, mammalian cell culture dynamics, recombinant protein expression, and upstream processing.
• Hands-on experience with cell line and upstream development instruments, including bioreactors and systems such as Solentim VIPS, Cell Metric, Octet, CEDEX, BPFlex, and Ambr250.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques, scale-up strategies, scale-down models, and equipment requirements.
• Working knowledge of GDP, GLP, and cGMP practices.
• Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, data-analysis, and technical-reporting skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Biochemical Engineering, with at least 5 years of experience, or 7 years with an M.Sc., is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with HPLC, CE-SDS, ELISA, and plate-based biologics assays.
• Expertise in cell culture techniques using bioreactors.
