TL;DR
Flight Termination System Engineer (Aerospace): Developing, integrating, and testing flight termination and autonomous flight safety systems for reusable air-launched hypersonic aircraft with an accent on RCC-319/RCC-324 compliance, range safety coordination, and aerospace systems integration. Focus on building hardware-in-the-loop systems, planning integrated flight tests, managing technical risks, and validating complex avionics under maximum predicted environments.

Location: Mojave, California, United States; onsite position. Travel is estimated at less than 10% as needed.

Base salary: $83,000–$206,000 annually, depending on level, location, education, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, integrate, and test Flight Termination Systems (FTS) and Autonomous Flight Safety Systems (AFSS).
  • Design, procure, and build AFSS hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Coordinate with range safety personnel on technical requirements, documentation review, approvals, and range testing.
  • Contribute to integrated flight-test planning for carrier aircraft, pylon, and hypersonic vehicle missions.
  • Support vehicle design reviews, complex aerospace systems integration, and risk mitigation planning.
  • Communicate technical status, challenges, and guidance to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience in electrical engineering, aircraft integration, or launch-vehicle integration.
  • Experience with FTS or AFSS components, including receivers, batteries, safe-and-arm devices, ordnance, or initiators.
  • Experience architecting avionics systems using commercial off-the-shelf or in-house hardware.
  • Experience tailoring RCC-319 and RCC-324 requirements, maximum predicted environments, acceptance testing, and qualification testing.
  • Experience with aerospace technical leadership, subcontractors, test planning and execution, and risk management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.

Nice to have

  • RF system design, link budgets, antenna design and placement.
  • Debris catalogs, breakup analysis, environmental test specifications, and maximum predicted environment instrumentation.
  • C, C++, AGI STK, or HFSS experience.
  • Experience with government agencies, air-launch programs, or aircraft prototype development.
  • Existing security clearance.
