Salary: $157,000–$206,000 annually

What you will do
- Own the Autonomous Flight Termination System and flight safety discipline from architecture and analysis through qualification, certification, and flight readiness.
- Lead safety-related hardware and system design reviews and make technical decisions for safety-critical avionics.
- Manage the flight safety relationship with Space Launch Delta 45, the Eastern Range, and the FAA/AST, including Part 450 safety data deliverables.
- Define abort rules, hazard and debris footprints, mission data loads, and Monte Carlo verification methods.
- Specify redundant flight computers, independent GPS/INS navigation, power, telemetry, and ordnance interfaces.
- Investigate anomalies, establish engineering standards, and mentor avionics and GNC engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
- 8+ years of experience with flight safety systems, flight termination systems, avionics, or GNC for launch vehicles or flight hardware.
- Hands-on experience taking an autonomous flight termination or flight safety system through launch-vehicle range certification.
- Working knowledge of RCC 319, autonomous flight safety requirements, and FAA Part 450 expectations.
- Experience owning flight safety analysis, including abort rules, debris and hazard footprints, and statistical or Monte Carlo verification.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.
Nice to have
- Advanced engineering degree and experience integrating CASS/AFSS with vehicle avionics.
- Experience with the Eastern Range, new launch-vehicle first flight programs, or safety-critical avionics qualification testing.
- Familiarity with redundancy architectures, GPS/INS navigation, independent power and telemetry chains, and vibration, shock, thermal, and EMI testing.
- Python or MATLAB scripting for safety analysis and load-set processing.
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical direction without formal authority.
