Director of Quality

Location: On-site in Austin, Texas, Bristol, UK, or London, UK. Regular travel to manufacturing partners across Taiwan, Japan, the US, and Europe is required.

What you will do

• Build and own the Quality Management System from the ground up, targeting ISO 9001 certification and establishing quality policies, metrics, document control, CAPA, and lifecycle quality gates.
• Lead supplier and partner quality across foundries, OSATs, contract manufacturers, and component suppliers covering silicon, advanced packaging, optical components, and compound semiconductors.
• Define product qualification and reliability strategies for silicon, optical components, modules, and systems using JEDEC, Telcordia GR-468, or equivalent standards.
• Establish failure analysis, FRACAS, incoming inspection, acceptance criteria, SPC, FMEA, 8D, DOE, yield, and defect-improvement programmes.
• Own manufacturing and fleet quality, including process capability, control plans, PFMEA, escape prevention, field failure analysis, and reliability metrics.
• Manage product compliance and certification activities covering CE, UKCA, IEC 62368-1, IEC 60825, EMC/EMI, RoHS, REACH, conflict minerals, and cybersecurity requirements.

Requirements

• 12+ years of Quality Engineering or Quality Management experience in semiconductor, photonics, electronics, or advanced manufacturing, including at least five years leading teams.
• Experience building a Quality Management System in a fabless or early-stage environment and scaling it through NPI into volume production.
• Deep supplier quality experience with foundries, OSATs, and contract manufacturers in an outsourced manufacturing model.
• Strong knowledge of semiconductor and optoelectronic qualification and reliability, including JEDEC or Telcordia GR-468, plus SPC, FMEA/PFMEA, control plans, 8D, DOE, and CAPA.
• Experience leading electronic hardware compliance and certification, including CE or UKCA, safety, and EMC.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline; willingness to travel regularly is required.

Nice to have

• Optical or photonic component reliability experience, including laser-based components.
• Datacentre or hyperscaler hardware quality experience, including fleet reliability and RAS.
• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, ASQ CQE or CMQ/OE, or Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or Business Administration.
