Laser Architect (III-V)

Salary: £235,000+ annual salary, commensurate with experience, skills, and location.

hirify.global develops the DX-1 decode accelerator, a rack-scale system combining logic, data movement, packaging, optics, and interconnect to improve AI infrastructure performance and efficiency.

What you will do

• Shape the architectural vision and multi-year technical direction for hirify.global's laser devices.
• Apply deep III-V device expertise to decisions across materials, epitaxy, device architecture, modulation, packaging, and reliability.
• Lead resolution of ambiguous, high-stakes device and integration problems and establish durable design principles.
• Partner with electronics, optics, packaging, systems, and manufacturing teams on a coherent laser roadmap.
• Raise design, simulation, characterization, and reliability standards through hands-on technical leadership and mentorship.
• Connect laser architecture to business objectives, volume scaling, external partnerships, and industry positioning.

Requirements

• 15+ years of semiconductor laser development experience with demonstrated III-V device expertise.
• PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience setting architecture and long-term technical direction for a laser or photonics domain.
• Deep knowledge of III-V materials, MBE/MOCVD epitaxy, device physics, high-speed modulation, and reliability.
• Ability to align cross-functional stakeholders, communicate complex trade-offs, and mentor engineers at all levels.
• Eligibility to work at hirify.global is subject to U.S. export control regulations and most recent citizenship or permanent residency status.

Nice to have

• Experience with co-packaged or co-designed optics at rack scale.
• Experience founding or scaling a laser or photonics device line.
• Knowledge of datacom reliability standards.
• Experience co-designing lasers with custom driver ASICs.
• Visible industry leadership through talks, committees, publications, patents, or standards work.
