Senior Photonics Test Engineer

Location: On-site in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Travel is less than 10%.

Base salary: $126,887–$166,127 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, upgrade, and expand test infrastructure for passive and active integrated photonics devices at chip and wafer scale.
• Characterize photonic components using room-temperature and cryogenic optical test setups.
• Develop robust component-level testing procedures.
• Automate instrument setup, data acquisition, analysis, and testing pipelines with scalable, well-tested scripts.
• Provide data-driven feedback to design engineers to improve component performance.
• Collaborate with design, packaging, and systems teams to develop testing structures and improve the photonics platform.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on experience characterizing PIC devices, or equivalent education and experience.
• Master’s or Ph.D. in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Programming experience in a general-purpose language such as Python or MATLAB for test automation.
• Experience with test instrumentation and methods for classical integrated photonics devices.
• Strong data processing, visualization, and organizational skills.
• Hands-on experience with room-temperature optical test setups.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of design and characterization experience with classical integrated photonics devices.
• Experience with cryogenic optical test setups, free-space optics, imaging systems, laser sources, and fiber components.
• Strong programming skills for data analysis and experimental automation software, plus experience with Git.
• Familiarity with PIC fabrication processes and design constraints.
