Director, Media Relations and Communications (AI/Biology)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY, or Redwood City, CA; onsite at least 60% of the working month, approximately 3 days per week.

Salary: $193,000–$265,100 annual base pay, with potential eligibility for a discretionary annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Develop and execute earned media, influence, and external visibility strategies for Biohub.
• Lead communications for product launches involving AI models, datasets, tools, platforms, and other scientific or technical products.
• Build relationships with journalists, editors, creators, podcasters, newsletter writers, and other influential media voices.
• Serve as a primary media contact and spokesperson, handling interviews, background conversations, and media inquiries.
• Prepare senior leaders for media engagements through coaching, talking points, and briefing materials.
• Manage reputation and crisis communications while measuring media performance, sentiment, and campaign impact.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in media relations, communications, public affairs, or a related field.
• Established relationships across technology, AI, science, business, health, and modern media ecosystems.
• Experience leading and developing communications teams, including a high-performing team of 3–5 communications managers.
• Track record of securing high-impact earned coverage and shaping narratives around complex technology, science, AI, biotech, or health topics.
• In-house communications experience supporting technology, AI, scientific research, biotech, or other innovation-driven organizations.
• Exceptional storytelling skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into accurate, compelling narratives.

Nice to have

• Experience with science media.
• Experience leading communications for AI/ML, developer tools, research platforms, scientific software, open-source tools, datasets, or models.
