Mechanical Project Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Launceston, Tasmania, Australia; onsite project and construction responsibilities

What you will do

• Manage detailed mechanical designs delivered by contractors and provide engineering calculations and technical direction.
• Review mechanical drawings, documentation, equipment selections, safety compliance, and contractual requirements.
• Support RFIs, variations, change control, site instructions, progress meetings, and milestone tracking.
• Conduct site inspections and verify installations against approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Prepare and review ITPs, checklists, factory acceptance tests, commissioning procedures, and integrated systems testing.
• Oversee mechanical commissioning, resolve issues, validate systems before handover, and contribute to operation and maintenance manuals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• At least 3 years of project engineering experience in mechanical contracting, design, or construction.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, methodologies, and relevant Australian standards.
• Ability to interpret drawings and technical documentation and develop effective technical solutions for ambiguous problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with contractors, vendors, and technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in cross-functional, multicultural teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with data centre or other critical environment projects.
• Proficiency in computer-aided design software for mechanical schematics.
