Electrical Engineer - Motor Controller (PCB) (Robotics) (Power Electronics/FOC): Designing compact, high-current motor controller PCBs for the joints of a full-size humanoid robot with an accent on inverter stages, mixed-signal sensing, embedded communication, and thermal constraints. Focus on owning schematic-to-bring-up development, validating current loops and signal integrity under load, and iterating high-density actuator boards with PCB/PCBA suppliers.

What you will do

  • Design joint motor controller PCBs, including inverter stages, MOSFETs, gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, and protection circuits.
  • Design encoder, temperature, and auxiliary sensor interfaces.
  • Integrate EtherCAT or CAN communication physical layers and the MCU subsystem with embedded engineers.
  • Own high-current, high-density PCB layout for thermally constrained actuator modules.
  • Bring up and debug boards, validating power-on behavior, signal integrity, current loops, and thermal performance under load.
  • Iterate board revisions with local PCB/PCBA suppliers and support EMI/EMC robustness and harness and connector definition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience designing motor drive or power electronics boards, such as BLDC inverters, servo drives, or ESCs.
  • Strong schematic and layout skills for mixed-signal, high-current designs using Altium or an equivalent tool.
  • Hands-on board bring-up and debugging experience with oscilloscopes, current probes, and thermal measurement equipment.
  • Solid understanding of FOC drive requirements, including current-sensing accuracy, PWM dead time, and gate-driver design.
  • Experience collaborating closely with firmware engineers during board bring-up.

Nice to have

  • Experience with integrated actuator drives or smart joints in robotics or drones.
  • EtherCAT or CAN-FD hardware integration experience.
  • Experience with GaN or high-frequency switching designs.
  • Familiarity with functional safety concepts, including STO and protection mechanisms.
  • Comfort communicating technical topics in English with international teams.
