TL;DR
A&P Mechanic - Flight Test (Electric Aviation): Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying all-electric aircraft for integration and flight test operations with an accent on mechanical systems, electric propulsion, avionics, composites, and airworthiness documentation. Focus on performing ground tests, troubleshooting aircraft systems, developing maintenance procedures, and coordinating reliability improvements with engineers and project managers.

Location: Plattsburgh, New York, United States, and South Burlington, Vermont, United States. The role is split between headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Burlington, Vermont, and the flight test facility in Plattsburgh, New York. Domestic and international travel with the aircraft is required, along with a flexible schedule including early mornings and late nights.

Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Inspect, test, adjust, repair, and modify aircraft mechanical systems, including flight controls, landing gear, pneumatic systems, and propulsion components.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, and modifications on high-voltage systems, electric propulsion, avionics, instrumentation, landing gear, and composite structures.
  • Support aircraft integration, ground operations, flight test activities, and ground test operations.
  • Maintain aircraft forms, maintenance records, work records, ground support equipment, and hardware.
  • Develop maintenance processes and procedures while following technical documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Work directly with engineers and project managers to recommend aircraft system changes that improve reliability and maintainability.

Requirements

  • A&P License required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 1+ year of experience in aerospace or another regulated industry.
  • Experience supporting flight operations and repairing or modifying aircraft.
  • Strong mechanical, airframe, powerplant, fabrication, troubleshooting, schematic-reading, and basic electrical skills.
  • Knowledge of glass cockpit mechanical systems, wiring diagrams, wiring practices, modifications, and terminations.
  • Business English communication skills required. Must be able to work safely in aircraft and outdoor environments and handle required physical demands.

Nice to have

  • Flight test or aerospace engineering background.
  • Experience training others toward an Airframe and Powerplant License.
  • Experience with aviation maintenance management software such as IMDS, CAMP, Envision, or AvPro.
  • Commercial pilot license.
  • Degree or partial education toward an engineering discipline.
