Head of Forward Deployed Engineering (AI)

Location: Austin, TX; hybrid workplace. Regular travel to customer sites is required, up to 25%.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and grow the Forward Deployed Engineering team while raising its technical bar.
• Own the technical win for strategic enterprise deals, from discovery and tailored demos through POCs, pilots, close, and production deployment.
• Architect, configure, and deploy agentic workflows using customer data, documents, integrations, and subject-matter expertise.
• Build the FDE playbook, reusable demo templates, solution patterns, example datasets, qualification standards, and deployment handoffs.
• Drive the edge-to-product cycle by converting novel field use cases and customer feedback into repeatable product and engineering motions.
• Partner with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success on technical strategy, deployments, and measurable success metrics.

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or Technical Presales, including leadership or mentoring experience.
• Experience owning technical wins in complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise deals and carrying solutions through production deployment.
• Technical fluency with APIs, data structures, system architectures, Python, SQL, API integrations, and modern AI coding tools.
• Strong understanding of LLMs, agentic workflows, retrieval, and enterprise AI product architecture and deployment.
• Experience building tailored demos and POC environments and scaling them through reusable templates and processes.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work credibly with engineers, executives, customers, Sales, Product, and Engineering.

Nice to have

• Industrial or manufacturing domain expertise, including CPQ, ERP, configure-to-order, engineer-to-order, takeoff, or estimation workflows.
• Experience with Salesforce CPQ, Oracle CPQ, Tacton, Epicor CPQ, SAP, NetSuite, Epicor, Infor, or Dynamics.
