TL;DR
Technical Accounting Specialist (Insurance) (FRS 102/IFRS): Owning complex technical accounting across insurance broking, claims handling, car finance, SPV structures, and the Group holding company with an accent on accounting policy, revenue recognition, insurance accounting, and audit readiness. Focus on leading the FRS 102 amendments transition, resolving legacy audit findings, documenting complex judgements, and building scalable controls across a multi-entity financial services group.
Location: London, hybrid with 3 days in the office

What you will do
- Own and maintain Group accounting policies across the UK insurance broker, claims handling, car finance, SPV, and holding company entities.
- Lead the FRS 102 2026 amendments impact assessment and transition, including revised revenue recognition and expected credit loss provisions.
- Provide technical accounting leadership on share-based payments, intangibles, leases, impairment, PPOs, HP loan recognition, ECL provisioning, and SPV accounting.
- Lead revenue recognition policy and data transformation work with Engineering, Data, and FP&A.
- Review insurance accounting at Group level, including earned premium, technical provisions, reinsurance accounting, and consolidation implications.
- Prepare audit-ready reconciliations and judgements, resolve legacy audit findings, improve controls, and coach junior colleagues.
Requirements
- ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification with substantial post-qualification experience in technical accounting or senior controllership.
- Working knowledge of insurance accounting is essential, including earned premium, technical provisions, and reinsurance structures.
- Advanced knowledge of FRS 102 and/or IFRS, with experience documenting complex accounting judgements to audit standard.
- Experience in a multi-entity group with consolidated reporting across UK GAAP/FRS 102.
- Advanced Excel and strong ERP knowledge; NetSuite experience is an advantage.
- Ability to independently solve complex problems, communicate technical analysis clearly, identify control risks, and coach colleagues.
Nice to have
- Car finance or consumer credit accounting experience, including HP income recognition, IFRS 9/ECL, SPVs, or securitisation.
- Big Four audit experience with insurance or financial services clients.
- Exposure to FCA-regulated or insurance-regulated environments.
- Experience with Looker or Snowflake.
