Mechanical Engineer 4 (NSSS System Design)

Location: Corvallis, Oregon, United States. Employees within a 30-mile radius of a current NuScale office must work onsite 4 days per week. Employees outside the 30-mile radius may work remotely from within the contiguous United States, with travel as required for business needs.

Target pay: $127,103–$153,401 annually. Full pay range: $113,955–$178,237 annually.

What you will do

• Perform system and detailed component design for nuclear steam supply systems, including valves, CRDMs, and pressurizer heaters.
• Prepare, check, and review engineering specifications, drawings, calculations, reports, and other design documentation.
• Lead vendor design activities for NSSS components through design, manufacturing, and assembly, coordinating with design partners and internal stakeholders.
• Define and sponsor inspection and testing programs and ensure designs meet NuScale and regulatory requirements.
• Support domestic and international licensing activities and interpret project scope to develop design alternatives.
• Serve as a technical lead, mentor less experienced engineers, and coordinate multidisciplinary resolution of technical problems.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of full-time relevant nuclear experience.
• B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
• Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
• Strong technical writing, professional communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional organization skills and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases.
• Ability to understand and apply applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, regulations, and quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
• Ability to travel nationally and locally and to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• Working knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and 10 CFR 50.
• Nuclear utility or plant experience and knowledge.
• Experience with NSSS component design, inspection, and testing.
• Experience resolving complex multidisciplinary design issues.
• Domestic nuclear licensing support experience.
