TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer 4 (NSSS System Design) (Nuclear Systems): Designing and reviewing nuclear steam supply system components, systems, specifications, calculations, and test programs with an accent on nuclear codes, regulatory requirements, and vendor coordination. Focus on leading complex multidisciplinary design work, supporting licensing activities, and mentoring engineers while ensuring safety and quality compliance.

Location: Full-time remote work is available only in the contiguous United States; the department is based in Corvallis, Oregon. National and local travel may be required.

Salary: $127,103–$153,401 annually; full range $113,955–$178,237 annually.

What you will do

  • Design and review NSSS systems and components, including specifications, drawings, calculations, engineering reports, inspections, and testing documentation.
  • Lead vendor and subcontractor design activities through manufacturing and assembly while coordinating with internal stakeholders and design partners.
  • Develop design alternatives and resolve complex multidisciplinary technical issues using independent engineering judgment.
  • Sponsor testing programs and support domestic and international nuclear licensing activities.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Coordinate design activities across engineering disciplines while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably mechanical engineering.
  • At least 10 years of relevant full-time nuclear industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of ASME codes and standards, 10 CFR 50, 10 CFR 21, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and ASME NQA-1.
  • Experience with NSSS component design, inspection, and testing; nuclear utility or plant operations; and multidisciplinary design resolution.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organizational, presentation, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice to have

  • Registered Professional Engineer license in mechanical or nuclear engineering.
  • Domestic nuclear licensing support experience.
