Mechanical Engineer 4 (NSSS Systems Design)

Location: United States; remote work is available within the contiguous United States, while employees living within 30 miles of a current NuScale office must work onsite four days per week. Travel is required as business needs demand.

Salary: Target annual pay of $127,104–$153,401; full annual pay range of $113,955–$178,237.

What you will do

• Perform mechanical engineering assignments for NSSS system and detailed component design.
• Review plant systems and define or verify design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements.
• Prepare, check, and review engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documentation.
• Develop design alternatives, resolve complex multidisciplinary technical issues, and propose innovative solutions.
• Serve as a test program sponsor and interface with NuScale Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced engineers while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 10 years of full-time relevant nuclear experience.
• Significant ISI expertise.
• Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
• Strong technical writing, professional communication, computer, presentation, interpersonal, organization, and complex project-management skills.
• Excellent knowledge of the applicable engineering discipline and practical application of industry codes, standards, and regulations.
• Knowledge of NSSS components, including piping, vessels, valves, CRDMs, and pressurizer heaters.
• Ability to develop and review specifications, drawings, and technical documentation for NSSS components, systems, and structures.
• Ability to work independently on complex assignments, exercise judgment, coordinate across disciplines, and provide technical direction.
• Understanding and implementation of quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
• Ability to travel nationally and locally and to perform the stated physical duties with reasonable accommodation.

Nice to have

• Registered Professional Engineer license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• Working knowledge of ASME Sections III and XI and 10 CFR 50.
• Knowledge of ASME Section XI Engineering Programs, including ISI and IST.
• Knowledge of NDE requirements and techniques used during PSI and ISI of components.
• Nuclear utility or nuclear plant experience.
• Experience with NSSS component design, inspection, and testing.
• Experience resolving complex multidisciplinary design issues.
• Domestic nuclear licensing support experience.
