Senior Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required.

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, highly available payment platform systems, including billing and payouts capabilities.
• Lead multi-team technical initiatives and collaborate with product, data science, operations, and engineering teams.
• Architect complex features using data-driven decision-making and performance optimization.
• Improve engineering foundations, development processes, technical quality, and operational excellence.
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience leading the design, implementation, and deployment of high-scale, cross-functional payment systems.
• Technical leadership experience, including setting technical direction, leading project teams, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience defining product or technical strategy and aligning cross-functional leaders and stakeholders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams, departments, and leadership.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• 1+ years of relevant payments or fintech industry experience as a backend software engineer.
