Mechanical Systems Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Francisco, on-site five days per week

Salary: $150K–$225K per year

What you will do

• Architect high-performance, high-speed geartrain systems for electric propulsion, accounting for rotordynamics, lubrication, and integrated interfaces.
• Perform gear design calculations using AGMA and ISO standards, including load capacity, contact stress, and bending fatigue.
• Analyze rotating-system dynamics, including vibration, critical speed, and noise, vibration, and harshness.
• Design and analyze shafts, bearings, housings, and lubrication hardware, and establish subsystem testing.
• Specify qualification testing, analyze test data, and improve simulation models using historical and internally generated results.
• Define instrumentation placement and diagnose hardware and software problems, implementing corrective actions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on transmission design and/or testing experience in automotive, aerospace, or power generation applications.
• Foundational knowledge of rotordynamics, fatigue effects, lubrication systems, and transmission failure modes.
• Familiarity with test instrumentation, data reduction, and anchoring analysis to experimental results.
• Experience with tools such as KissSoft, Simcenter, SMT MASTA, or Ansys for dynamic analysis.
• Ability to take initiative, maintain attention to detail, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
