AI Research Scientist (Biology)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, CA

Salary: $160,000 – $300,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Design complex biological research benchmarks to evaluate scientific reasoning.
• Curate and vet biological datasets to ensure high scientific rigor.
• Analyze AI model outputs to identify failure modes and improve evaluation criteria.
• Collaborate with AI/ML researchers to translate scientific intuition into effective training signals.
• Manage workflows and coordinate with domain experts to maintain documentation and progress.

Requirements

• Graduate-level training in biology, biochemistry, computational biology, or a related field.
• Hands-on research experience and strong scientific taste.
• Working knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and large language models.
• Proficiency in Python for data processing, analysis, and experimentation.
• Must be able to work on-site in San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Experience creating evaluation datasets or annotation guidelines.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines and biological databases.
• Hands-on experience with LLM fine-tuning, RLHF, or preference-based training.
• Relevant research publications in AI for science.
