Senior Software Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Seattle, United States; strong onsite collaboration is expected at AIM offices, labs, and proving grounds in the Greater Seattle area.

What you will do

• Architect and implement autonomy software components spanning edge compute, cloud services, and on-premise systems.
• Build frameworks, APIs, and services integrating autonomy, controls, perception, and robotics infrastructure.
• Develop clean, testable, production-ready software for real-time and safety-critical environments.
• Optimize compute, memory, networking, and inter-process performance across diverse and rugged operating conditions.
• Work with TPMs, systems, autonomy, hardware, and field operations teams to diagnose root causes and ensure reliable machine deployments.
• Mentor engineers and improve code reviews, CI/CD, test frameworks, observability, and developer tooling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production systems.
• Strong coding ability in one or more of Python, C++, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Experience with distributed systems, real-time systems, or large-scale production software.
• Experience with cloud technologies, databases, and service-oriented architectures.
• Ability to design reliable, modular, safe, testable, and maintainable systems and work across hardware/software interfaces.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, autonomy, perception, controls, mapping, localization, or deployed real-world systems.
• Experience with distributed computing on edge devices, ruggedized hardware, embedded devices, sensors, or firmware.
• Experience with Linux systems programming, IPC, networking, real-time constraints, or numerical and ML libraries such as NumPy, CuPy, or PyTorch.
• Experience with CI/CD, configuration management, DevOps tooling, serviceability, or observability.
