What you will do
- Perform and oversee daily husbandry, welfare checks, weighing, environmental monitoring, and special diet or medicated feed and water administration for research rodents.
- Manage animal receipt, identification, housing assignments, transfers, acclimation, and routine care of cage-wash and autoclave equipment.
- Plan and monitor rodent breeding schemes, perform weaning, sexing, identification, and welfare-focused tissue collection for genotyping.
- Coordinate genotyping submissions, maintain chain-of-custody documentation, and manage breeding, genotype, lineage, and colony records.
- Communicate animal health, colony status, room conditions, deviations, and operational issues to veterinary, vivarium, and research staff.
- Follow biosafety, biosecurity, IACUC-approved protocols, SOPs, and institutional requirements while supporting inspections and audits.
Requirements
- Associateβs or Bachelorβs degree in Animal Science, Biology, Laboratory Animal Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least 6 years of hands-on rodent vivarium experience in biotech, pharma, CRO, or another highly regulated research environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in husbandry, health monitoring, environmental checks, weighing, rodent breeding, weaning, sexing, and genotyping sample collection.
- Experience implementing and documenting special diets or medicated feed and water as directed by veterinary staff or study protocols.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and electronic recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an SOP-driven environment and participate in weekend and holiday rotations as required.
Nice to have
- AALAS certification such as ALAT, LAT, or higher, or equivalent certification.
- Experience with SoftMouse, Mosaic, or similar colony management software.
- Familiarity with AAALAC accreditation standards and IACUC processes.
