Mechanical Design Engineer (Fusion)

Location: Hybrid in Munich, Oxford, or Zurich

hirify.global is a European fusion company developing the hardware and infrastructure for commercial stellarator fusion power plants.

What you will do

• Develop detailed mechanical designs for significant systems within the Alpha stellarator and integrate them with physics, mechanical, and structural systems.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses and implement design improvements.
• Evaluate technology trade-offs, select materials, and conduct feasibility studies for the Alpha net-energy stellarator.
• Design, deliver, and support prototyping and verification of components, materials, assemblies, and manufacturing processes.
• Work with external suppliers and collaborators on the development and manufacture of components and systems.

Requirements

• Experience designing and analysing mechanical components and assemblies.
• Proficiency with CAD; experience with 3DExperience/CATIA V6 and ANSYS is beneficial.
• Experience delivering conceptual and detailed designs for mechanical, structural, thermal, or electromechanical equipment used in research, prototyping, or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of designing and selecting materials for high-temperature, cryogenic, electromagnetic, or vacuum applications.
• Ability to work with external suppliers and multidisciplinary technical teams in fast-paced environments.
• Programming experience in science and engineering, particularly Python, is beneficial.

• Recruiter interview lasting 30–45 minutes.
