Senior Mechanical Engineer (Quantum Computing)

What you will do

• Own mechanical design from initial requirements through manufacture and system integration.
• Integrate mechanical subsystems around quantum processors, including cryostats, cooling equipment, vacuum chambers, and support structures.
• Create 3D CAD assemblies, detailed 2D drawings, bills of materials, and assembly documentation.
• Design vacuum pump-down, gas-handling, coolant-management, cable, and optical-fibre routing systems.
• Work with scientists, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to deliver system builds and upgrades.
• Support laboratory assembly, investigate issues, and ensure designs can be manufactured and assembled in practice.

Requirements

• Mechanical engineering degree or related qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Approximately five years of relevant industry experience and a strong mechanical design background.
• Established CAD skills, ideally SolidWorks, with experience structuring assemblies.
• Experience with complex multidisciplinary systems and practical assembly methods.
• Experience with cryogenic or vacuum systems, plus familiarity with GD&T and manufacturing or inspection drawings.
• Ability to work independently, gather incomplete requirements, collaborate across disciplines, and take work through to completion.

Nice to have

• Experience with PLM systems.
• Experience with thermal analysis.
• Quantum experience is not required.
