Senior Backend Software Engineer (Connected Tables)

Location: Bulgaria, remote-first; optional access to the Sofia office

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and maintain Java backend services for data integration and synchronization.
• Develop reliable and scalable systems that move data between applications and services.
• Improve system reliability, observability, performance, and operational excellence.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design decisions, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and identify opportunities to simplify systems and automate workflows.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and operating production-grade backend systems in Java.
• Experience designing scalable services, APIs, data synchronization systems, data pipelines, or integration platforms.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, including reliability, resiliency, consistency, race conditions, fault tolerance, observability, and performance at scale.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, modern deployment practices, automated testing, system design, and performance optimization.
• Ability to own projects from design through production delivery and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, testing, and delivery workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with ETL systems, integration platforms, event-driven architectures, or data synchronization.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Experience with C#, .NET, observability tooling, monitoring, or production incident response.
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
