TL;DR
Associate Mechanical Engineering Manager (Communication Systems) (Aerospace/Defense): Leading mechanical engineering teams developing ruggedized electronics packaging and phased array communication systems for airborne, maritime, and ground-based platforms with an accent on mechanical architecture, detailed design, analysis, manufacturing, and environmental qualification. Focus on mentoring engineers, improving engineering processes, and solving complex mechanical challenges across aerospace and defense product lifecycles.

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

What you will do

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Mechanical Engineers.
  • Support staffing, hiring, onboarding, resource planning, and allocation across product programs and IRAD efforts.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts for ruggedized electronics packaging, phased array antenna systems, and communication hardware.
  • Guide concept development, mechanical architecture, detailed design, structural and thermal analysis, manufacturing, integration, environmental qualification, and production transition.
  • Improve mechanical engineering processes, standards, tools, and best practices while supporting technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, RF, Manufacturing, Quality, Test, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4–7 years of industry experience designing and analyzing aerospace, defense, communications, or ruggedized electronics products.
  • At least 1 year of leadership or management experience as a technical lead, project lead, Responsible Engineer, IPT Lead, or people manager.
  • Experience with PCBA-level and system-level electronics packaging, mechanical systems, product lifecycle activities, and aerospace or defense manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical or SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks, and SolidWorks PDM.
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing and standards including MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, IPC, ASME, and SAE.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with phased array antenna systems, RF electronics packaging, avionics, tactical communication systems, or defense electronics.
  • Experience supporting EMI/EMC, vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, ingress protection, and other environmental qualification campaigns.
