Pulsed Power Operations Engineer (High Voltage) (Pulsed Power/High-Voltage Engineering): Operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading high-voltage pulsed-power systems for the Phoenix laser system with an accent on transient diagnostics, electrical safety, and experimental operations. Focus on analyzing waveforms, identifying root causes, developing operating procedures, and qualifying as a Pulsed Power Controller for laser experiments.
Location: Denver, Colorado, United States; full-time onsite role
Company
develops inertial fusion energy technology and laser systems to support global decarbonization.
What you will do
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve high-voltage, high-current pulsed-power systems and experimental hardware.
- Perform electrical diagnostics with oscilloscopes, probes, meters, and other test equipment.
- Analyze transient waveforms and test data to identify abnormal behavior, equipment degradation, and root causes.
- Inspect, install, replace, commission, and maintain electrical components and high-voltage hardware.
- Develop operating procedures, checklists, alarm setpoints, interlocks, preventive-maintenance requirements, and equipment records.
- Train and qualify as a Pulsed Power Controller and support Shot Directors during Phoenix laser experiments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of circuit fundamentals, AC/DC analysis, RC/RL/RLC circuits, energy storage, and electrical components.
- High proficiency with oscilloscopes and electrical test equipment, including probe selection, bandwidth, sampling, and waveform interpretation.
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, component datasheets, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and high-voltage laboratory practices, including PPE, grounding, discharge procedures, and interlocks.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee; must work onsite in Denver.
Nice to have
- Coursework, laboratory work, or experience in pulsed power, high-voltage testing, or high-current electrical systems.
- Experience with pulse-forming networks, Marx generators, capacitor banks, pulse generators, or transient diagnostic equipment.
- Experience in laboratory, test, integration, commissioning, manufacturing, or experimental engineering environments.
- Experience with failure analysis, corrective actions, maintenance, configuration control, and equipment readiness.
Culture & Benefits
- Hands-on work in a fast-paced experimental laboratory environment.
- Collaboration with engineers, technicians, scientists, and pulsed-power subject matter experts.
