Principal Systems Developer (C/C++)

Location: Boston, MA, United States

Salary: $144,000–$205,000 USD per year, plus a possible discretionary annual variable target incentive.

What you will do

• Design, implement, optimize, and maintain database kernel components using C and some C++.
• Develop efficient algorithms and data structures for memory and modern storage devices.
• Analyze concurrency control, memory ordering, and shared-memory access issues.
• Maintain and extend the embedded ObjectScript programming language and database management APIs.
• Improve interactions with operating systems and hardware, debug complex issues, and develop test code.
• Create internal design documentation and guide external documentation while tracking operating system, storage, and database technology.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience developing low-level system code for mission-critical software.
• Professional experience with C or C++; assembly experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, concurrency control, compiler and interpreter methods, and software engineering.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to building robust software for high-stakes deployments over long lifecycles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Assembly programming experience.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and critically evaluating their output.
• Ability to design and implement AI-augmented workflows that improve individual and team productivity.
