TL;DR
Hardware Lead (Robotics): Designing mechanical systems and components for AI-driven robots with an accent on 3D modeling, fabrication drawings, manufacturability, and mechanical testing. Focus on guiding technicians through prototyping and assembly, integrating mechanical systems with electrical and software components, and coordinating component sourcing and external fabrication.

Location: Boston, Massachusetts; on-site. The role may require an extended assignment in the EU for onboarding and support of European operations. Travel of approximately 25% is expected.

Base salary: USD $125,000–$160,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and location.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical systems and components for AI-driven robots.
  • Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for fabrication, optimizing designs for cost, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct mechanical simulations, prototyping, and performance testing to validate designs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate mechanical components with electrical and software systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians during fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and quality reviews without formal management responsibilities.
  • Source components and coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and procurement on fabrication, quality, and lead times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computational Mechanics, Engineering Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in robotics or automation.
  • Experience with industrial design or special-purpose machinery.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar.
  • Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing methods, mechanical testing, prototyping, and system integration.
  • Experience guiding or mentoring technicians or junior engineers and working directly on the shop floor.
