Test Automation Engineer (Optical Testing & Calibration) (optical communications and manufacturing test): Developing automation software and calibration methodologies for Lumentum’s wavelength management modules with an accent on optical performance, test infrastructure, and production quality. Focus on interfacing measurement instruments, troubleshooting test systems, analyzing production data, and improving throughput, reliability, and yield across global manufacturing.

Location: Ottawa, Canada

Salary: CAD 110,000–149,000 per year, plus potential annual bonus, equity, and health and welfare benefits.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain automation software for calibration and test execution.
  • Define and implement calibration and test plans with R&D teams to optimize optical module performance and meet specifications.
  • Deploy and support test processes and infrastructure across global manufacturing sites.
  • Troubleshoot test-system and product-performance issues through systematic problem solving.
  • Analyze test data and production metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Improve test throughput, reliability, yield, cost efficiency, and quality.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a science or engineering field.
  • Knowledge of optical communication principles and technology.
  • 5–10 years of industry experience in automation, calibration, or test development.
  • Demonstrated automation programming skills and experience interfacing test and measurement instruments through RS232, I2C, SPI, GPIB, or Ethernet.
  • Strong problem-solving, technical, teamwork, and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with optical component calibration, LCoS, or MEMS systems.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or SQL for yield and performance analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process control and statistical analysis, including SPC and GR&R.
  • Programming experience with C# or VB.NET and MS Visual Studio.
  • Familiarity with Agile project development.
