TL;DR
Staff Propulsion Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, building, and testing propulsion systems for advanced spacecraft and satellites with an accent on fluid system architecture, propulsion components, and flight and ground test campaigns. Focus on sizing pressurization systems, analyzing water hammer and pressure budgets, developing FMECA and FDIR architectures, and leading multidisciplinary propulsion engineering work.

Location: Fully onsite in Denver, Colorado; candidates must be based in or able to commute to the Denver office daily. Travel up to 20% to the Long Beach factory and vendor sites.

Base salary: $155,000–$260,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, optimize, build, and test propulsion systems and components for advanced satellites.
  • Develop propulsion systems and spacecraft subsystems from concept through flight.
  • Review system models, drawings, and piece-part designs.
  • Collaborate with structural, mechanical, thermal, and avionics engineers to validate designs against mission requirements.
  • Lead propulsion test campaigns, design-improvement initiatives, and technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to propulsion engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of professional experience with launch or space vehicles.
  • Experience with stage systems, rocket engines, flight valves, or detailed fluid-system architecture and analysis.
  • Propulsion testing experience, including hot-fire or pressure testing, vehicle-level checkouts, and propellant loading.
  • Experience with pressurization-system sizing, water-hammer analysis, pressure budgets, FMECAs, and FDIR architecture.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance and satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in space-systems development and production, valve or propellant-tank design, analysis, and manufacturing.
  • Project leadership experience and familiarity with the full vehicle lifecycle from concept through production.
  • Experience with mechanical design for propulsion systems, mechanisms, or optical payloads.
  • Startup or similarly dynamic-environment experience.
