Electrical Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Munich, Germany; travel to facilities worldwide for several weeks at a time.

What you will do

• Design and develop the electrical system for a scalable, industrial diode-pumped ultra-high-intensity laser system.
• Contribute electrical systems expertise to the overall laser design, including conceptual designs and prototype testing.
• Integrate electrical systems into future facilities and support engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Develop quality plans, inspection and test plans, safety architectures, interface control documents, and state machines.
• Lead construction, commissioning, troubleshooting, prototyping, repair work, and on-site fixes.
• Collaborate with laser, engineering, experimental, and external partner teams across international projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 3–5 years of industry experience.
• Hands-on experience designing, assembling, calibrating, testing, and commissioning complex analog and digital electrical systems.
• Proficiency with EPLAN P8 or similar E-CAD tools.
• Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and industrial automation, including SCADA and EN 61131 PLC logic.
• Experience with industrial safety standards, laboratory and test equipment, calibration, and traceability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and willingness to travel for several weeks at a time.

Nice to have

• Experience in large-scale industrial or research facilities such as laser laboratories, accelerator facilities, or production plants.
• Knowledge of pulsed-power components, laser safety, IEC and DIN VDE standards, and quality management principles.
• Experience with Beckhoff TwinSAFE or other safety-rated controllers.
• Project management certification such as PMI or similar.
