Defensive Security Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; work arrangement: on-site. Visa sponsorship and a relocation stipend to San Francisco may be available.

Salary: $225,000–$550,000 annually, plus significant equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain security tooling and automation for engineering teams.
• Secure developer infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, production services, and platform tools.
• Build secure sandboxing and isolation for untrusted code, agents, and model execution.
• Develop guardrails against prompt injection, tool abuse, exploit chaining, and autonomous model behavior.
• Protect model weights, research artifacts, datasets, and production infrastructure from unauthorized access, lateral movement, and exfiltration.
• Respond to security incidents and live threats while collaborating with research, infrastructure, platform, sandboxing, and alignment teams.

Requirements

• Production software engineering experience with Rust, Go, Python, C++, Kotlin, TypeScript, or similar languages.
• Strong understanding of modern MITRE ATT&CK techniques and active engagement with the role of LLMs in securing and attacking software systems.
• Experience securing distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale production environments.
• Ability to develop high-complexity cloud Linux-based exploits.
• Deep knowledge of UNIX or other operating systems, networking, authentication, authorization, and modern security architecture.
• On-call readiness 24/7 and a track record of integrity, accountability, and trustworthiness in high-autonomy environments.
