Director, Project Development (Fusion Energy)

Location: Hybrid role based in Devens, Massachusetts or Richmond, Virginia, United States; requires up to 25% travel and occasional nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $170,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead development of the first ARC grid-scale commercial fusion power plant and establish a pipeline of future sites.
• Oversee permitting, licensing, site control, utility connections, electrical interconnection, planning and zoning approvals, technical diligence, and construction entitlements.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, risks, commitments, consultants, contractors, engineers, lawyers, and other external partners.
• Develop financial models and long-term revenue and expense projections to support financing and investment decisions.
• Create a project development center of excellence, including performance metrics, documented best practices, lessons learned, and a replicable delivery playbook.
• Coordinate with design, government affairs, finance, commercial, legal, compliance, and EHSS teams while engaging communities, authorities, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance, economics, mathematics, physics, or a related field, or more than 10 years of progressive experience developing large-scale energy projects.
• At least 5 years of large capital project development and investment experience and at least 5 years of project management experience.
• Experience achieving financing or a final investment decision for a major project with financing greater than $50 million.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-company, multifunctional teams through large and complex projects.
• Deep knowledge of project finance, permitting, electrical interconnection, and project development practices; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
• Ability to work in an industrial facility with hazards including high voltage, high current, pressure systems, cryogenics, strong magnets, heat, cold, noise, fumes, and lead.

Nice to have

• Four or more years of independent power or electric utility industry experience.
• Experience developing large-scale power plants exceeding 50 MW.
